Educational Access Visits

Educational Access Visits allows pupils to see how a farm works and where their food comes from, in a pleasurable and safe environment. All visits are supported by Natural England and so are free to schools and groups. However, you will need to provide your own transport to and from Upper Moreton Farm and appropriate staffing cover during the trip. A typical visit can last from two to four hours.  We encourage everyone to interact with all areas of the farm through ‘hands-on’ experience.

Activities include care of small animals, rabbits and guinea pigs, feeding of hens, egg collecting and depending on the time of the year, hand feeding of calves, lambs and piglets. Other activities offered include sowing of seeds, potting on young plants and learning all about healthy eating and the benefits of growing your own produce. Conservation and habitat management activities allow children to experience nature walks and pond dipping where everyone can get involved and enjoy the benefits of fresh air and freedom of being outdoors.

A visit is essentially an outdoor event, so children should be encouraged to wear appropriate clothing for the time of year, including boots or wellingtons. We can also offer a variety of indoor activities if the weather is wet and cold.

Accreditation (CEVAS)

Upper Moreton Farm is registered with the Countryside Educational Visit Accreditation Scheme CEVAS. Carol Carney is CEVAS qualified and has a teaching qualification.

Child Protection

Upper Moreton Farm is committed to ensuring that all children who participate in educational visits have a safe and positive experience and therefore have developed a Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy which sets out a framework to fulfil this commitment.

The Countryside Classroom

The countryside offers an invaluable teaching resource. Visits can be used to teach all aspects of the curriculum through learning about farming and the countryside. We have a range of activities that meet all requirements, from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4 and over curriculum areas of Geography, History, Drama, English, R.E., Science, Mathematics. PSHE and Citizenship, PE, ICT, Art and Design. Activities include:

  • Farm walk and talk

  • Meet, watch and feed our animals

  • Care of animals including the Five Freedoms

  • Conservation activities and the natural environment

  • Nature walks

  • How our food is grown

  • Gardening activities in our polytunnel and vegetable garden
